WASHINGTON, DC (March 19, 2021) – As America celebrates the contributions of women this month, the DC Republican Party pays homage to the important contributions of women to our community.
The Republican Party has a rich history of trailblazing women and supporters. Susan B. Anthony defied law and voted Republican in 1872, and Republican Margaret Chase Smith was the first woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. Suffragists worked with Republican Senator A.A. Sargent to introduce the 19th Amendment, and today, Republican woman are leading governors, U.S. Senators and Congresswomen.
In recognizing the importance of Women’s History Month, Patrick Mara, Chairman of the DC Republican Party said:
“The DC Republican Party honors women and their contributions to our country and our federal city during Women’s History Month. Our party believes in the principle of equal opportunities for all, and we celebrate the historical role of the Republican Party in achieving many milestones for women’s rights. This month, DC Republicans rededicate ourselves to offering a positive agenda for DC women by making our city safer and more equitable. We do these things with special gratitude to the women who are teachers, healthcare workers, police and leaders across the District of Columbia and strive for the policies we advocate to protect and expand opportunities for women.”
