About Us
The DCGOP played an integral role in the forming of the Republican Party and is America’s only urban state party!
History
FROM R.A.W. TO DC GOP
Anti-slavery activists established the DC GOP on June 19, 1855. This was before all but a few state GOP organizations came into existence. Known at first as the “Republican Association of Washington,” it denounced Democrats for extending slavery to the territories. Chairing the group was abolitionist newspaper editor Lewis Clephane.
Our Leadership
DCGOP is led by Chairman Patrick Mara, and has three elected representatives on the Republican National Committee (RNC). We sent 19 Delegates and 16 Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention. Most importantly, we are active in municipal affairs in Washington.
