FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC (July 18, 2021) – The DC Republican Committee issued the following statement following the July 17th, 2021, shooting outside Nationals Park, the day after the drive-by murder of an innocent six year old girl:
Patrick Mara, Chairman of the DC Republican Committee, stated, “This is not the time to blindly follow the national progressive “defund the police” agenda. This is not the time to divert attention to the progressive fantasy world in which all guns are banned. The members of the DC Council are not overturning the Second Amendment anytime soon.”
Mara continued, “The District of Columbia must control our rapidly rising crime. Fortunately no one died outside Nationals Park tonight; however, people are dying. Homicides have become a routine occurrence in the District, especially murders committed with illegal guns. We should value human life – and quality of life – over the theories and untested policies of the modern national progressive agenda.”
“The shooting outside Nationals Park might finally resonate with the far left wing members of the DC Council. Hopefully they can take a break from enjoying their “free” Nationals tickets and discussions of raising taxes, defunding the police, and statehood and focus a little bit more on protecting residents and visitors of the District of Columbia. Again, people – including little children – are dying.”
The DC Republican Committee is composed of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members.
