DC GOP applauds Mayor Bowser for her appointment of DC Republican Chip Nottingham to Board of BEGA

WASHINGTON – This morning longtime District of Columbia resident and Ward 3 Republican Charles D. “Chip” Nottingham was sworn in to the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA). Nottingham has decades of open government, ethics and FOIA experience that includes tours in Congress, a U.S. Senate-approved Executive Branch appointment and running the second largest state agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He also happens to be a DC native.

The DC Republican Party’s Chairman José Cunningham expressed his appreciation for Mayor Muriel Bowser’s nomination of Nottingham to BEGA. He noted, “On behalf of DC Republicans, thank you Mayor Bowser for sticking to your guns and seeing Chip’s nomination through.” Cunningham continued, “While BEGA requires members from the non-majority party, Mayor Bowser has been good at making appointments to District of Columbia Boards and Commissions based on the qualifications of the individuals regardless of political affiliation. As the Mayor knows, Chip is highly qualified to serve on BEGA. We are grateful for her appointment of Chip and look forward to working with her in the future to identify the best possible candidates for DC Boards and Commissions.”

Cunningham added, “It was also very nice to see DC voting rights champion and former Member of Congress Tom Davis (R-VA) testify in favor of Chip’s nomination. Congressman Davis exemplifies the great level of bipartisanship – and nonpartisanship – that I know Chip will use during his tenure as a BEGA board member.”

The DC Republican Party Committee is made up of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members.
