FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
D.C. REPUBLICANS DEMAND INVESTIGATION OF D.C. PUBLIC SCHOOLS ‘TWO-TIMING’ ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MICHAEL REDMOND
D.C. Attorney General must seek restitution of Michael Redmond’s deceptively received DCPS salary while going AWOL on DC students at their most vulnerable time during Covid-19
WASHINGTON, D.C. – (Dec. 16, 2021).
The DC Republican Committee today called for an immediate investigation into Michael Redmond, the Assistant Principal of Kramer Middle School in Ward 8, who for four months during 2020 simultaneously served as the Principal of E-Cubed High School in Providence, Rhode Island, where he relocated. Redmond admitted to four ethics violations but refuses to return the salary he scammed out of DC Public Schools (DCPS) while working in Rhode Island.
“Assistant Principal Redmond went ‘AWOL’ on DC students in need of instructional leadership during their most vulnerable time away from school at the height of the pandemic,” said Patrick Mara, Chairman of the DC Republican Party.
“The DC public schools, funded by city resident and business taxpayers, are not a gravy train for bureaucrats to exploit the pandemic and neglect students in their care,” Mara continued.
Chairman Mara, who previously served as an elected member of the DC State Board of Education, was reacting to this week’s announcement by the DC Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA), which levied a $10,000 fine on Mr. Redmond.
“That’s not good enough,” Mara said, reacting to the fine. “Assistant Principal Redmond got paid by DC school taxpayers for his no-show job while he relocated and worked 400 miles away for another school – even as DC students, parents, and teachers struggled with mandated virtual learning.”
“DC Attorney General Karl Racine should conduct his own investigation and demand full accountability from the ‘two-timing’ Mr. Redmond, which should include nothing less than restitution of his salary and pension credit during the 17-week period he worked elsewhere during the school day while being paid to serve DC children,” Mara demanded. He added, “It is the Attorney General’s job to ensure tax dollars wrongfully received get returned.”
