WASHINGTON, DC (June 19, 2021)
As Americans celebrate Juneteenth and commemorate emancipation, justice and equal opportunities for all, we are reminded, in the words of President Abraham Lincoln, we must all continue to strive for a more perfect union. We honor those who worked to abolish slavery, including those in Texas, who didn’t hear of the Emancipation Proclamation until 1865. In honor of Juneteenth, Chairman of the DC Republican Party, Patrick Mara, said:
“Today, we honor the African American community in our great city and all Americans who continue to strive for equity, justice, and a more perfect union. Washington, DC Republicans represent those who seek greater freedom in business, education and society, as a whole. We stand with the Metropolitan Police Department to better serve all DC residents equitably and secure freedom in our community. As we honor past achievements, we know there are new goals to reach, and Juneteenth gives us a moment to reflect on the ways that we can strive to build a city with greater justice and a better future for all.”
