WASHINGTON – Yesterday the DC Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA) announced four fines for Jack Evans, the Ward 2 Councilmember, and District of Columbia Democratic National Committeeman. The $20,000 in fines are the maximum allowable under DC law. For the second time, DC Republican Party Chairman José Cunningham called on the Ward 2 Councilmember and Democratic National Committeeman to resign his seat on the DC Council.
Cunningham noted, “Let me be clear once again: Mr. Evans should resign. Apparently, we’ll keep issuing press releases until Evans resigns or is removed from office by Federal authorities. It’s sad that it has come to this for the longest-serving member of the DC Council. FBI Raids, stripped of Council roles, maximum allowable fines from BEGA, resignation from the Chairmanship of WMATA. Who knows what’s next?” He added, “I hope others on the DC Council and in the Democratic Party will follow suit and acknowledge Mr. Evans’ bad ethics and illegal activities and call on him to resign.”
The DC Republican Committee is made up of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members.
