FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Washington, DC – (February 4, 2025)- Today, the DC Council voted to expel Councilmember Trayon White for violating the DC Code of Conduct for Councilmembers. The FBI arrested White in August and charged him with taking bribes. In December, the DC Council voted to expel him.
“The DC Council did what was expected of them and expelled Trayon White from the DC Council. Trayon did not spare the residents of Ward 8 and the residents of the District of Columbia from having to endure this inevitability. We now turn our focus to the Ward 8 special election to replace Trayon. The hope is that the residents of Ward 8 will be represented by an elected official who puts the needs of Ward 8 residents first. Public service should not be viewed as a means of self-enrichment,” emphasized Patrick Mara, Chairman of the DC Republican Party.
“We are confident a strong qualified Republican candidate will enter the race and allow voters to choose from someone outside of the Democratic club that has consistently delivered corrupt politicians to the DC government for decades,” stressed Chairman Mara.
The DC Republican Party is comprised of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members. It is a state party with three elected members of the 168-member Republican National Committee.
