WASHINGTON – The DC Republican Party issued the following statement announcing the results of their 2016 Presidential Straw Poll held on Wednesday, March 2nd, as part of the annual Lincoln Douglass Dinner. The top five finishers in the straw poll were:

Donald Trump – 31%
Marco Rubio – 28%
Ted Cruz – 16%
John Kasich – 14%
Ben Carson – 5%

José Cunningham, Chairman of the DC Republican Party, noted, “On Saturday, March 12, the DC Republican Party will conduct a convention to select 16 voting Delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. While our 2016 straw poll event attracted hundreds of Republicans, thousands of DC registered Republicans will have the opportunity to decide which candidates receive Delegates from the District of Columbia. You see a similar horse race developing in the District that we’ve witnessed in virtually all the states thus far.”

Added DC GOP Executive Director Patrick Mara, “The March 12th convention has attracted 160 DC Republicans to run as Delegates to the National Convention. This is likely the largest single number of DC Republicans who have ever run for one office in the District of Columbia. It is a testament to the great strides the DC party has made in a very short amount of time.”

The DC Republican Convention (DC Republican Primary) will take place on Saturday, March 12th, at the Loews Madison Hotel (1177 15th ST NW). Those Republicans registered to vote with the DC Board of Elections on or before February 29, 2016, will have the opportunity to vote for one Republican Presidential candidate and up to 32 Delegate candidates (16 Delegates and 16 Alternate Delegates). Qualified voters are able to vote at anytime throughout the day at the Loews Madison between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The closest metros are McPherson Square (Orange/Blue/Silver) and Farragut North (Red). Parking is available in the garage adjacent to the hotel on 15th Street for $10 or via valet at the hotel entrance for $30. Information on obtaining media credentials will be made available in a future press release.

The DC Republican Party Committee is made up of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members. It is a state party with three elected members of the 168-member Republican National Committee.
