WASHINGTON – Last week the nation grieved for the family and friends of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Antonin Scalia following his passing. Regardless of political ideology or views of Justice Scalia’s work, tributes poured in from a broad spectrum of elected officials across America. Simultaneously, in the District of Columbia Councilmember David Grosso used his official Twitter account to disparage the recently deceased Scalia with the following Tweet:
Grosso now claims a staff member intended to write the Tweet on his/her personal account.
DC Republican Party Chairman José Cunningham stated, “Elected officials and their staffs must be held to higher standards. This behavior by a DC Councilmember’s staff is unacceptable. Why are taxpayer funded DC government resources being used to mock the recently deceased?” Cunningham continued, “At minimum, the staffer should resign. Councilmember Grosso’s staff has not done the District of Columbia any favors.”
The DC Republican Party Committee is made up of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members. The party is led by Chairman José Cunningham, National Committeeman Bob Kabel, National Committeewoman Jill Homan and other members of the Executive Committee.
