Washington, DC – (December 4, 2023) On Friday, December 1, 2023, Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie became the eighth Republican candidate for President of the United States to qualify for the ballot at the March 1-3, 2024, District of Columbia Republican state party primary. The DC Republican Party issued the following statement on Governor Christie’s entry into the race:

DC Republican Party Chairman Patrick Mara stated, “The District of Columbia Republican Party is pleased to announce our eighth and final candidate on our presidential primary ballot. Today, the former New Jersey governor filed as the eighth candidate to appear on the ballot as part of the District of Columbia Republican primary. DC Republican voters have a robust field of eight candidates to cast their fifth-in-the-nation primary ballots, significantly influencing the nominating process of the eventual Republican presidential nominee. Congratulations to Governor Christie and his campaign for being the eighth and final candidate to make the ballot in DC in this highly anticipated primary. The DC primary follows the early states and immediately before Super Tuesday.”

The District of Columbia Republican Party Presidential Primary will be held on Friday, March 1, Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Marriott Madison Hotel in Washington, DC. During the pre-Super Tuesday DC Primary, Presidential candidates will compete for 19 proportionately allocated Delegates and 16 Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Delegates from across the country will convene to select the Republican nominee for President of the United States. National Republican Party rules necessitated that the DC GOP move the primary from the District-scheduled primary on June 4 to the earlier dates in March. Other candidates who have already filed to appear on the ballot include former President Donald Trump, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Governor Ron DeSantis, businessman Ryan Binkley, former Governor Nikki Haley, Governor Doug Burgum, and National Security Strategist David Stuckenberg.
